‘Most prestigious’ Yankees fall, losing nine straight for first time in 41 years — adding to list of disgraces

The New York Yankees, the most prestigious franchise in Major League Baseball (MLB), have lost nine straight games for the first time in 41 years.

The Yankees fell 1-2 at home to the Washington Nationals in the 2023 MLB World Series on Sunday at Yankee Stadium in New York City. Carlos Rodon, returning from the disabled list, pitched six innings of one-run ball, but the offense was held to a two-hit silence. The Yankees have lost their last nine games dating back to April 13 against the Miami Marlins.

The Yankees haven’t lost nine straight games in 41 years, dating back to Sept. 14-22, 1982.

The Yankees are MLB’s most prestigious franchise. They have won 27 World Series titles. They have won more trophies than any other MLB team. The Yankees’ tradition and discipline are part of what makes them such a prestigious organization. In the past, they’ve spent astronomical amounts of money to attract star players. This year, the team’s total payroll is $279 million, which is the second highest among all teams.

However, the Yankees have been on a downward spiral this season, posting a disgraceful record.

A recent nine-game losing streak has seen their five-game winning percentage collapse and drop them to last place in the American League. As of the 23rd, they are 60-65 with a .480 winning percentage. They are a whopping 17 games behind the division-leading Baltimore Orioles.

They’re virtually out of the postseason. They are 10.5 games behind the third-place Seattle Mariners in the wild-card race.

The Yankees are batting just .176 as a team during their recent nine-game losing streak. They have scored zero runs twice and one run three times during that stretch. Last year’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Aaron Judge has returned from injury, but he too has struggled, batting .200 since August.

A disgraceful record hangs over the Yankees. If the Yankees lose on Thursday against the Washington Nationals, they will lose 10 straight games for the first time in 110 years, since 1913. The Yankees’ longest losing streak as a team is 12 games, set in 1908.안전놀이터

The last time the Yankees finished in last place in the division was 1990. They are 5.5 games behind their rivals, the fourth-place Boston Red Sox, another prestigious franchise.
