England soccer team captain and striker Harry Kane, 30, is set to undergo a medical at Bayern Munich after receiving permission to travel to Germany from his club Tottenham Hotspur, BBC Sport reported on Monday night (Nov. 11).
The two clubs had earlier agreed a deal on Tuesday to complete Kane’s move to Munich in a deal worth more than 100 million euros ($145.8 million, £86.4 million). With such a rapid turn of events, the decision to leave was left to Kane.
Kane, who has scored 280 goals in 435 appearances in a Tottenham shirt, the most in club history, still has one year left on his contract at Spurs. However, the general consensus is that he will not be staying at Spurs.
Barring any surprises, Kane’s move is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2023-2024 German Bundesliga on Aug. 18.
Kane has won the English Premier League (EPL) Golden Boot three times, in the 2015-2016, 2016-2017, and 2020-2021 seasons. Notably, he has scored 213 goals in 320 EPL games. He needs 48 goals to break former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer’s record for most EPL goals (260).
Shearer took to social media after news broke that the two clubs had agreed on a deal for Kane, posting a photo of himself in a pilot’s uniform in front of a small airplane with the caption “COME ON HARRY, it’s time to go!”.
Kane is England’s all-time leading goalscorer with 58 caps, but he has never lifted a major trophy between club or country. That’s why he’s been clamoring for a move elsewhere.
Bayern Munich won the German Bundesliga title for the 33rd time last season (11 years in a row) and have finished at the top of the Champions League six times. It’s just what Kane needs after never winning a major trophy.안전놀이터
