“Breathtaking” close call in ‘final hours’

Anyang Indoor Gymnasium on the 7th. Home team Jung Kwan-jang won a thrilling 74-72 victory over Busan KCC in a close game.
KCC led in assists 20-9, fast breaks 8-3, and 3-pointers 8-4, but Kwanjang had the edge in steals 10-5 and turnovers 8-13. Rebounding was even at 42-39.

(Q1)
Three ties and eight lead changes. Early on, Lee Geun-hwi’s shot bounced back to give KCC a 5-0 lead, but a Daryl Monroe bucket tied the game at 5-5. After a back-and-forth battle, KCC took the lead 27-24.

(2nd quarter).
Lagana’s three-pointer sparks KCC’s run, extending their lead to 13 points, 47-34, after six minutes. The largest lead in the game. However, Jeong Kwan-jang chased down Park Ji-hoon and Lee Jong-hyun, and Abando’s dunk just before the end made it 44-47.

(3rd quarter)
Kwanjang fights back. In the 5th minute, Mexwell’s shot made it 52-51 and the game was close again. After three ties and three lead changes, Kwanjang took the lead for good at 59-57.

(4th quarter)
Alize Johnson’s three-pointer puts KCC back up 60-59 with two minutes to go. Abando hits a three-pointer at the five-minute mark to make it 63-62 in favor of Chungkwanjang. Three back-and-forth battles. With 1:04 left in regulation, KCC tied the game again at 69-69 with a three-pointer by Chung.

The real battle begins!
Maxwell’s three-pointer gives KCC a 71-69 lead. But with 34 seconds left, Maxwell’s foul led to three free throws for Johnson.
Johnson calmly makes all three to give KCC the lead back at 72-71.
34 seconds left. It’s game time for Coach Jung Kwan-jang!
Starting the offense from the end line, Jung Kwan-jang found Park Ji-hoon for a dramatic three-pointer off a pass from Choi Sung-won to make it 74-72.
There were 14 seconds left, but KCC couldn’t use the timeout. They were already out of gas.
After rushing the offense, Johnson attempts a three-pointer but misses and the game is over!
