‘Direct to KS confirmed’ LG sells out 23,750 seats at 5:27 p.m. on day of championship ceremony

LG Twins fans fill Jamsil Stadium. It’s a weekday, but the stadium is sold out an hour before kickoff.

LG unveiled its starting lineup for the final game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League season against the KIA Tigers at Jamsil Baseball Stadium on Saturday.

Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Park Hae-min (center fielder), Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter), Austin Dean (first baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Park Dong-won (catcher), Moon Sung-joo (left fielder), Kim Min-sung (third baseman), and Shin Min-jae (second baseman).

The team was able to return home at dawn after playing Busan Lotte the day before. They are tired, but there is no time to rest. LG wants to win in front of their home fans and have a good ‘winning ceremony’.

Before the game, coach Yeom Kyung-yup said, “We have a victory ceremony after the game. So I put all the main players on the field.” After the game against KIA, the team and LG fans shared the joy of winning the regular season after 29 years.

LG clinched the 2023 season pennant race while traveling on the bus to Busan on March 3. It is the first regular season title in 29 years since 1994. It is also the third regular season title in LG’s history after 1990 and 1994.

The starting pitcher for the game was Lee Jung-yong. In 35 games (12 starts) this season, Lee has a 7-2 record with three saves and a 4.78 ERA.

Prior to the game, LG removed two starters. Foreign starter Casey Kelly and transferee Choi Won-tae were removed from the first team roster. RHP Lee Sang-kyu and RHP Oh Seok-ju were promoted to the first team in place of Kelly and Choi.
