The Doosan Bears snapped a five-game losing streak against Jamsil rivals LG Twins to extend their lead over the fifth-place SSG Landers back to three games, thanks to a game-winning hit by Cho Su-hyun.
The Doosan Bears earned a 4-3 walk-off win in the 12th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against the LG Twins at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Monday. Fourth-ranked Doosan improved to 68 wins, two ties and 60 losses on the season with the sweep of the three-game Chuseok series, snapping a two-game losing streak and a five-game losing streak to LG. Their lead over fifth-place SSG is back to three games.
Doosan entered the eighth inning with a 3-2 lead thanks to a back-to-back homers by foreign-born Jose Rojas, but early reliever Jung Chul-won gave up a tying run to Austin Dean.
Doosan rallied in the bottom of the ninth. Leadoff man Kim Jae-hwan walked, Heo Kyung-min singled and Kim Jae-ho drew an automatic walk to load the bases. Pinch-hitter Kim In-tae hit a short fly ball to center field, but Cho Sung-hyun hit a dramatic game-ending single off LG’s Yoo Young-chan on a 1B-2S unfavorable count.
Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop said after the game, “Cho overcame an unfavorable pitch count in the bottom of the ninth inning and hit a great game-winning hit. He’s really been an alto in the offense in the second half. We lost the lead in the first inning and it could have been a tough game for us, but Rojas changed the momentum with his back-to-back home runs.”안전놀이터
However, starter Choi Won-jun was unable to get the win despite giving up two runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout in 6⅔ innings. “It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get the win even though Choi Won-jun pitched well, but if he pitches like he did today, it will give us a lot of strength for the rest of the season,” Lee said.
“I would like to thank the fans for their support during the holiday season,” Lee said.
Doosan will look to continue their winning streak on the 30th with Kim Dong-joo. LG has called up Choi Won-tae.
