South Korea’s national women’s volleyball team attacker Park Jung-ah (30, Pepper Savings Bank) reflected on the disappointment of the Hangzhou Asian Games (AG).
Park attended the 2023-24 Dodram V League Women’s Media Day at Hotel Rivera in Seoul on Wednesday and shared her thoughts on the upcoming season.
Park is physically and mentally exhausted. She competed in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in July, the Asian Championships, the Paris Olympic Qualifiers, and the Hangzhou Asian Games (AG), which concluded on Aug. 8.
Korea’s women’s volleyball team has struggled in recent international competitions. At the AG, the team suffered one loss in the group stage (Group C), falling to Vietnam 2-3 in straight sets, and lost to China in the first round of the quarterfinals, ending their 17-year wait for a medal.
“I don’t think we neglected anything in our preparation,” said Park Jung-ah, who played as a starter. All the players worked hard, but it’s disappointing. It’s bound to be memorable,” Park said. “I think I can do better if I do it again,” she said.
After failing to qualify for the Paris Olympics, the Korean women’s volleyball team chose to part ways with head coach Cesar Hernandez. His leadership had been questioned throughout his tenure.안전놀이터
“We had a conversation where he said, ‘It was a good experience to meet players like you who work hard without complaining. It’s a shame we didn’t get the result, but we’ll see you through to the end,’” Park said. Park’s voice was tinged with regret at the situation where the arrows of blame for the national team’s poor performance have been pointed at the coach.
Park signed a three-year contract with Pepper Savings Bank last spring for an annual salary of 750 million won. He is expected to lead the leap forward for Pepper Savings Bank, which finished last in the last two seasons. Pepper Savings Bank was one of the favorites at the official media day held today (Dec. 12). Head coach Ko Hee-jin was also considered the favorite to win the title.
However, she was not feeling well after the international tournament. Park said, “Honestly, it’s hard to be physically fit. But that doesn’t mean the V-League season will be delayed. I will prepare for the start of the season by doing what I can,” he said. It will be interesting to see if he can regain his honor in the V-League.
