Chungbuk Cheongju and Gyeongnam FC go head-to-head for a semi-playoff spot.
Match of the Round – 7th-ranked Chungbuk Cheongju vs 5th-ranked Gyeongnam to decide the fate of the K League 2 Semi-Finals
Fifth-ranked Gyeongnam and seventh-ranked Chungbuk Cheongju will meet in Round 36 as they battle for a spot in the K League Two semifinals. Chungbuk Cheongju is coming off a 2-3 loss against Chungnam Asan in a back-to-back match on the 14th. It has been 23 games since the last nine rounds that Chungbuk Cheongju has conceded more than three goals in a game. The game against Chungnam Asan was disappointing in many ways for Chungbuk Cheongju, who have recently shown a ‘salty defense’.
Gyeongnam snapped a four-match winless streak (one draw and three losses) with a 3-1 victory over Seoul Eland in Round 35. It was encouraging to see Gleason, the team’s main striker, reactivate his scoring touch for the first time in about three months. Team of the Round – Anyang, Busan, and Jeonnam face a tough three-game series against Bucheon
Bucheon is currently in fourth place with 53 points. They are three points behind third-place Gimpo, who have played one game less than Bucheon. Below them are fifth-place Gyeongnam (49 points), sixth-place Jeonnam (47 points), and seventh-place Chungbuk Cheongju (47 points). Depending on how they perform in the remaining three games of the regular season, Bucheon could finish third and go directly to the K League Playoffs, but at worst, they could finish outside the top five and miss the semi-finals.
First up is Anyang. Bucheon has been exceptionally weak against Anyang in their last 10 matches, with one win, two draws, and seven losses. A 2-2 draw in their last meeting this season snapped a four-game losing streak against Anyang. Next up is currently first-place Busan. Busan is also within two points of second-place Gimcheon, so they will give it their all every round. The final opponent is Jeonnam. Both Bucheon and Jeonnam are looking to qualify for the K League 2 playoffs.
Bucheon faces a tough three-game series, but there is good news. The team’s leading scorer, Ahn Jae-jun, is back with the team after being sidelined for the Asian Games and will start this round against Anyang. □ Player of the Round – Paulinho makes Cheonan look forward to victory
Cheonan striker Paulinho scored two goals and added an assist to lead Cheonan to a 3-2 win over Seongnam in Round 23. It was Cheonan’s first K League 2 victory in the club’s history. In 15 appearances this season, Paulinho has six goals and three assists and has been involved in nine of Cheonan’s 29 goals.
Cheonan is currently on a four-game winning streak, with three of those wins coming in games in which Paulinho recorded an offensive point. That makes him a favorite to win for Tianjin.
In his last five games, Paulinho has six offensive points (four goals, two assists). The match between Cheonan and Seongnam will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Cheonan Sports Complex.
