“Two well-pitched innings & a game-winning home run”…Injuries, ’emergency insertions’ and substitute performances create ‘thrilling comebacks’

SSG Landers solidifies its hold on fifth place with a come-from-behind victory.

SSG won their home game against the NC Dinos 9-7 on March 3 at SSG Landers Field in Incheon. SSG’s three-game winning streak keeps them in fifth place with a season record of 68 wins, 3 losses and 63 draws.

SSG started with Choo Shin-soo (designated hitter), Oh Tae-gon (first base), Choi Ju-hwan (second base), Guillermo Heredia (center field), Han Yu-seom (right field), Kim Sung-hyun (shortstop), Lee Jeong-beom (left field), Kim Min-shik (catcher), and Kim Chan-hyung (third base).

After giving up five runs in the third inning, SSG scored three and five runs in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. In the eighth inning, Ha Jae-hoon hit a wedge solo home run. In the ninth, Seo Jin-yong gave up two runs, but the team didn’t allow any more runs to score and secured the win.

On the mound, there were plenty of variables. Starting pitcher Roenis Elias gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits (one home run) with one strikeout in three innings before leaving the game with back discomfort. Elias was followed by Lee Kun-wook (two scoreless innings), Choi Min-joon (one scoreless inning), Noh Kyung-eun (two scoreless innings), and Seo Jin-yong (two runs in one inning).

After the game, SSG manager Kim Won-hyung said, “With Elias going down with back pain, (Lee) Gun-wook pitched two good innings. (Choi) Min-joon and (Noh) Kyung-eun-i pitched well after that, especially Kyung-eun-i, who gave the bullpen a big boost by pitching two innings.”안전놀이터

He also applauded the bottom of the order. After Lee Jung-bum, who batted seventh, was injured in the first inning while fielding, Ha Jae-hoon, who came in as an emergency, went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Eighth baseman Kim Min-sik and ninth baseman Kim Chan-hyung also contributed to the team’s offense with one hit and one RBI each.

“In the batting order, Jae-hoon’s home run had a good impact on the team’s victory in the end,” said Kim. “The bottom of the order led the offense with four hits, three RBIs, and six runs, so I want to praise them for that.”

SSG and NC will face off at the same venue on April 4. SSG has announced Kim Kwang-hyun as their starting pitcher, while NC will go with Choi Sung-young.
