The Korea Football Association (KFA) today announced the final roster of the men’s national youth team for the FIFA U-17 World Cup. The U-17 World Cup will be held in Indonesia from Nov. 10-Dec. 2.
The 21-man roster includes 16 players who competed at the AFC U-17 Asian Cup in June, including captain Kim Myung-jun (Pohang Steelers U18), Kang Min-woo (Ulsan Hyundai U18), Lim Hyun-seop (Suwon Samsung U18) and Yoon Do-young (Daejeon Hana Citizens U18).
Bae Sung-ho, Woo Jeong-kyu (Daejeon Hana Citizen U18), Baek Ga-on (Seoul Boyngo), Lee Kyung-jun (Suwon Samsung U18) and Han Seok-jin (Jeonbuk Hyundai U18), who did not compete at the Asian Cup but have shown promise in their subsequent domestic campaigns and tours to Indonesia and Spain, have also been selected. Twenty of the 21 players were born in 2006, with Han Seok-jin being the only player born in 2007.
“It is unfortunate that some of the players who prepared for the tournament together are unable to join us due to injuries, but we will continue to play proactive soccer and dominate the game no matter what team we meet at the World Cup, just as we have been doing as a team,” said Byun Sung-hwan, head coach of the U-17 national team.
The team will convene at Paju NFC on the 30th and train for five days before departing on the 6th. South Korea will play their group matches against the United States on the 12th, France on the 15th, and Burkina Faso on the 18th. The venues are Jakarta International Stadium for the first and second matches and Bandung Sisalak Harupat Stadium for the third match, all at 9 p.m. KST.굿모닝토토 도메인
The 24-team U-17 World Cup will feature a 16-nation tournament with the top two finishers from each group and the best four finishers from the third group.
This is South Korea’s seventh appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Their best ever finish is the quarterfinals, which they achieved in 1987, 2009 and 2019. At the most recent tournament, in Brazil 2019, the team reached the quarterfinals on the strength of performances from Lee Han-beom (Meatwillan), Jung Sang-bin (Minnesota), and Hong Yun-sang (Pohang Steelers).
